Community Concerns

Frequently Asked Questions

FACT: The Town of Ashland is working to address homelessness with both safety and compassion in mind. We recently passed a camping ordinance to keep public spaces safe and accessible for everyone. At the same time, we’re developing an MOU with regional partners to expand outreach and connect unhoused neighbors with the services they need. While the Town does not provide housing or social services—that is Hanover County’s responsibility—we are committed to collaborating with nonprofits and the County to ensure that our community responds with both care and accountability.

FACT: No. There are no firm plans yet for the future of Henry Clay Elementary School. Hanover County, which owns the property, has issued a Request for Proposals (RFP) from developers to explore potential future uses. The County will ultimately decide how the site is repurposed.
